Why I disagree with a global warming doomsday – A biblical perspective

Some of you may have read Daily Mail’s article about doomsday global warming.

That article spurred me to think about my stance on the doomsday predictions of global warming from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and scientists. AOC said that we have twelve years. According to the Existential Climate-related security risk, we have until about 2050.

Aside from the science behind the Earth going through these cycles of warming and cooling, I believe there is a biblical advocation against the doomsday predictions behind global warming. God created the Earth and all that is in it, obviously. It has been a sport for men and women to predict the end of the world in every dispensation of time.

My brother-in-law, father-in-law, and I were outside grilling some months ago. The topic of global warming and climate change came up. My father-in-law brought up a point that God said the Earth would remain until the end. I listened intently and realized that he was right. Man shapes every land he touches, but God shapes time and when it will end.

After the Great Flood, God set a rainbow in the sky as a sign of his promise to not destroy the Earth with a flood again. After Noah and his family are allowed to leave the ark, God says:

While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.” And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. Then Noah built an altar to the Lord , and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Genesis 8:20-22

This passage is my basis against doomsday prophecies of global warming and any doomsday prophecy that is not confirmed by the Word of God.

Maybe this is not your average take on global warming. It’s not that I don’t believe we are harming our environment, or I don’t believe that we should be good stewards of the Earth. That is what we should do. I’m pointing out that life, as we know it, on Earth will not cease until Jesus returns. It is entirely up to the human population as to how good or miserable the living conditions on Earth become.

Why?

God’s intentions are not to kill mankind. Rather, His intentions are to save mankind through the redemption of Jesus’ blood. God says that seedtime, harvest, cold, heat, winter, and summer will not cease while the Earth remains. This is referring directly to the end time when the final battle between God and his angels and Satan and his angels. Even then, God’s righteous are withheld from the destruction that is to come upon the Earth.

This is why I don’t believe any doomsday prophecy that refers to global warming. The Earth shall remain as it is intended until God raptures his people and returns with judgement upon Satan and his angels. Until then, life on Earth will continue. Our job as his people is to preach His Gospel. I pray that we allow God to use us to bring the words of salvation to the people.
