Chick-Fil-A changes giving strategy, no longer supporting anti-LGBTQ groups

Chick-Fil-A today has announced that it will be following a changed model for their giving strategy moving forward. They announced that they will be giving exclusively to causes to help combat 3 specific causes:

  1. Education
  2. Homelessness
  3. Hunger

They specified partnerships with Junior Achievement, Covenant House International, and partnerships with local food banks in over 120 different communities across America.

What is not mentioned, however, is a continuation of support for any groups who oppose LGBTQ+ rights of any sort, whether it be in reference to gay marriage, adoption, or any other issues.

This non-mention has caused many prominent LGBTQ+ support groups to claim victory over the fast food chain. They claim that Chick-Fil-A has backed down and given in to their protests and anger.

On the other side of the coin, this has also caused anger from those on the right, for instance Mike Huckabee tweeted:

Lost in all of this political maneuvering by GLAAD and the Religious Right is that Chick-Fil-A is still doing a lot of good giving to people who have a lot of needs and spending money on helping people instead of opposing people. Jesus called us to reach the lost. He called us to be servants to all. He called us to show His love in the face of mistreatment, persecution, and hate. I just don’t personally understand how we can say that they are doing the wrong thing by focusing on where they can help people and do good instead of focusing on what they oppose.

Maybe we’d all be a lot better off if we looked for people to help instead of people to oppose.
