Chinese house church begins meeting online, members arrested anyway

Pastor Wang Yi and the membvers of the Early Rain Covenant Church were meeting online via Zoom on Easter Sunday, when suddenly something went wrong.

Agents entered the homes of at least six of their members and arrested them while other members of the church just thought they were having a connection issue.

The pastor and other members arrested were charged with having an unregistered house church.

The Chinese government has threatened the remaining church members with even harsher penalties if they continue to meet in any way.

Before Pastor Wang Yi was arrested he had written an open letter stating that any laws “violating human consciences that belong to God alone” be responded to with “Faithful disobedience.”
